Visiting Us

During 2008, the railway is only open to the public on operating days.  Outside of this time, it is not possible to visit the site & view the exhibits, unless on a special guided tour.  Use the links above to view the timetable or events list to check before you travel.

Ribble Steam Railway, based on Riversway Docklands in Preston houses one of the largest collection of standard gauge industrial locomotives in the UK.

23 Steam, 17 Diesel & 2 battery Electric locomotives are housed along with a selection of rolling stock in the three purpose built engine sheds on Chain Caul Road.

The Museum houses 16 locos in addition to a shop & café.  From the museum, you can board a steam hauled service which runs across the marina swing bridge, and alongside the River Ribble up to Strand Road.

In the main workshop, locomotives and carriages are being worked on by our volunteer workforce, a number of locomotives are in the process of being restored on site, with up to three steam engines and two diesel engines expected to be “out-shopped” during 2008—with their restorations having taken place on site, using the facilities of the large machine shop.

Included in your admission is travel on the trains running that day, and access to our museum and workshop buildings, which house one of the largest collections of industrial locomotives on display in the UK.  For more information on our exhibits, click HERE.  The railway has ample free parking available for our visitors.
