Steam hauled passenger trains?

05/8/2001

First Steam Hauled carriages worked over line since 1992

On 3rd August 2001, a number of test trains were operated over the entire line.  This was to enable a number of statutory tests to be made relating to the pollution, smoke, noise & vibration caused by the proposed operation.  RSH 'Agecroft No.2' worked the 3 coach set for three return runs.  This was in addition to working a goods train, made up of six loaded dogfish wagons, hauled by Thomas Hill ' Stanlow No.4' and ex BR class '05' D2595.

The tests are required to enable us to apply for our transport & works order, which will eventually allow us to haul regular passenger services along the line.  It is still anticipated that we will be able to welcome our first fare paying passengers during late summer 2002.

Building works progressing well

Trackwork continues on site - this time inside the workshop building - The rails are being set & spaced by our volunteers, prior to being set in concrete by the contractors.  It is hoped that the building will be handed over to the railway in the next few weeks.  This will then allow us to continue with the trackwork in the running shed area.  Check out our buildings link to view more information on the build project.
