Fleetwood Move Underway

25/1/2002

Locomotives & equipment move in progress

No, we're not moving the town, but the locomotives & equipment from the closed Fleetwood Loco Centre situated at Fleetwood Docks.  It is planned to move three locomotives tomorrow (26th) by road from Fleetwood to Preston.  These will be Hunslet 7161, Hudswell Clarke D1031 and Borrows No. 48, The King.  The remaining locomotives will be moved off site in the near future.

The step has been taken as further vandal and arson attacks on the former coal tippling plant for the now demolished power station have come much closer to damaging the exhibits.  Significant quantities of rail are also to me moved from site over the weekend.  These will be placed into store ready for future use.

All roads lead to the workshop

The 20th January 2002 saw the first item of rolling stock to be moved onto 'Road 1' of the workshop building.  This was the last road to be populated, and this has provided a further 250' of undercover space, into which further locomotives will be moved over the coming weeks.  The pit inside the shed saw immediate use as Thomas Hill 'Stanlow No.4' was moved into position to allow the gearbox to be removed for essential maintenance.  The locomotive has now been returned to traffic after just one week in the workshop.
