Walkden - Running in trials continue

25/06/2008

Trials very much being the word!  Those who have been involved in the restoration of HE3155 from basically scrapyard condition have been extremely patient with the ongoing "niggles" found with the loco.  Firstly a number of cracks were found on the boiler backhead, and were sequentially fixed - Then, after the boiler certificate was obtained, one of the cylinder end-covers broke, so a new pattern was made in order to cast a brand new cover.  This was machined & installed - only for some issues to be experienced with the bearings on the coupling rods.  All of these are slowly being "ticked off", and the loco moves closer to it's passenger debut.  Watch this space for more information - or, if you're passing the railway during the week, watch out for a green Austerity lurking around on the railway!!
