D2595

Builder Works No. Year Status Owner
Hunslet Engine Co. 7179 (5644) 1969(1959) In Service M Bailey

D2595 was first built in 1959 for British Railways & was to become a member of the now defunct class 05.  The manual gearchange mechanism with which these locomotives are equipped is quite cumbersome, and they only lasted a short time in BR ownership.  This loco spent it's entire BR working life in Scotland and the North East until withdrawal from Dunfermline Townhill (62C) in December 1967.  It was then stored until January 1969 before being returned to Hunslet for rebuilding.  It was then sold to Chadderton Power Station in Manchester, where it worked until 1981.  It then moved on to Kearsley Power Station.  The loco entered preservation in 1983 when it was sold to the East Lancashire Railway, and after restoration and a spell on the main line at the ELR, D2595 was moved to Southport under new ownership in October 1989.  It served well there on various passenger duties until it's arrival at Riversway on 31st March 1999.  The locomotive has changed hands again, and is still in service at Riversway as and when required, and is frequently seen operating the Santa Special trains in conjunction with a Steam Loco.  The loco is currently being repainted into BR Blue livery for the 2008 Diesel Weekend.

D2595 waits to proceed along the main line at Riversway - April 2001
